about the safety of america's streets and what police say they need to keep law and order. the tactic is called stop and frisk. today, a judge dealt a major blow, saying it could open the door to racism. tonight police are fighting back. abc's pierre thomas takes us into the heart of the battle. >> reporter: encounters like this that have fueled the furry. minorities claiming they are routinely targeted by the nypd stop and frisk program in blatant racial profile. this man said it happened to him. >> i remember them banging my head into this. >> reporter: he told abc's bill we're it's happening too often. >> how many times have you been stopped and frisked. >> seven times. >> you're hold old. >> 17. >> reporter: today a federal judge ruled that they've been engaging in racist by searching those they deem suspicious. 84% of those stopped by police were black and latino males. the men who brought the suit against the city spoke of justice. >> new york city police department now has to be part of the solution because the judge has agreed with us that it was a big part of the problem. >>

ago when the tornado struck in joplin missouri there was a story on good morning america about a mother who took the time to put a bicycle helmet on her young son's head and that saved that child's life. because part of the debris from the house struck the child and that kid survived because the mom put the bicycle helmet on his head. if you have the time right now, put protective gear on your head and your children -- and on your children's head and take cover as necessary. if you are in mobile home don't stay in it during the time of a tornado plan ahead. we are not in that situation right now. take cover in that mobile home if possible once again interior walls all the way around you. no windows breaking glass or flying debris. we will continue to go through the cdc's website and bring updates for you and other things to know in preparation for this event. lynette you are talking about this now. we don't have a tornado on the ground, however, conditions are eminent should one decide to drop. >> you are right. with the rain this tornado could be wrapped in rain and you know tor
